[Open iButton]To use iTemp you need a Thermochron and some other hardware for connecting the Thermochron to your handheld. The easiest way to get started is to order the Thermochron Starter Kit (DS1921K) from Dallas Semiconductor. It costs $25 USD and includes:

  • Thermochron iButton (DS1921)
  • iButton Keyring Fob Attachment (DS9093F)
  • 9-pin Universal 1-Wire COM Port Adapter (DS9097U-009)
  • Blue Dot Receptor with RJ-11 Connector (DS1402D-DR8 )
  • Instruction Sheet

iTemp has a Demo Mode which allows you to see all the functionality of iTemp without having any hardware connected. This gives you a feel for what iTemp can do for you in the event that you're waiting on hardware from Dallas Semiconductor.

There are three hardware connectivity options:

Option 1

  • A Palm modem cable
  • 9-pin Universal 1-Wire COM Port Adapter (DS9097U-009)
  • Blue Dot Receptor with RJ-11 Connector (DS1402D-DR8 )

Option 2

  • A Palm HotSync serial cable
  • A 9-pin null modem
  • A 9-pin gender changer
  • 9-pin Universal 1-Wire COM Port Adapter (DS9097U-009)
  • Blue Dot Receptor with RJ-11 Connector (DS1402D-DR8 )

Option 3

  • A Palm HotSync serial cradle
  • A 9-pin null modem
  • A 9-pin gender changer 9-pin Universal 1-Wire COM Port Adapter (DS9097U-009)
  • Blue Dot Receptor with RJ-11 Connector (DS1402D-DR8 )

Notes:

  • Our recommended supplier FOR Palm Modem Cables and Palm Serial Cables is PN Technologies.
  • If you have a Sony or Handspring, you must use one of the following:
  • Option 3 is only valid for HotSync cradles that connect to the serial port of your PC. If your Palm HotSync cradle is USB you cannot use it.
  • Radio Shack is our preferred vendor for a null modem and gender changer.

For Option 1:

  • Just connect one end of the Palm modem cable to he Palm's serial port and the other end of the cable to the DS9097U.
  • Connect the null modem to the gender changer. You should now have a connector with two male ends.
  • Disconnect your HotSync cradle from your PC, and connect the HotSync cradle into one end of the null modem/gender changer (doesn't matter which end).
  • Connect the Blue Dot Receptor to the other end of the null modem/gender changer.
  • Drop your Palm in the HotSync cradle and you can now read the Thermochron that's in the Blue Dot Receptor.
For Option 2:
  • Connect the null modem to the gender changer. You should now have a connector with two male ends.
  • Disconnect your HotSync cradle from your PC, and connect the HotSync cradle into one end of the null modem/gender changer (doesn't matter which end).
  • Connect the Blue Dot Receptor to the other end of the null modem/gender changer.
  • Drop your Palm in the HotSync cradle and you can now read the Thermochron that's in the Blue Dot Receptor.

For Option 3:

  • Connect the null modem to the gender changer. You should now have a connector with two male ends.
  • Connect the HotSync cable into one end of the null modem/gender changer (doesn't matter which end).
  • Connect the Blue Dot Receptor to the other end of the null modem/gender changer.

Note that DigitSense only sells iTemp software; you'll need to order the Thermochron hardware separately from Dallas Semiconductor.
